Turkey Rules

Captains must make sure that all players show up , especially on the first night, and collect € 25 from each person. That’s €250 in total for a team of 10. This sum should be given to John Foley a.s.a.p. The fee includes the charge for the lights for the whole tournament

A sub can only be taken from the same or lower level, team or sub list. This is a social tournament and a sub should not be better than the player being replaced. Generally speaking men cannot sub for women.

The courts are available from 6.45p.m., with the matches starting at 7.00. The second game on Mondays starts at 8.30. If a player is late their partner can opt to start the match and play on their own covering the whole court until the partner arrives. If the match has not started by 7.15 (or 8.45) the organisers may decide to give a walkover.Whenever problems arise, if at all possible try to play the game and the organisers will sort it out later.

Immediately after the match, each pair puts the number of sets won in the small boxes with the total number of sets won by the team on the night underneath.

The rule is that no matter what the weather is like, you must turn up on the night. If you don’t, and your opponents do, then they may be given a walkover. We must avoid postponing matches at all cost as it is too difficult to get courts for re-scheduled games.

If a match must be postponed, please make every effort to play it before the weekend, using subs if necessary. If it is not played then one point will be given to each side as we need weekly totals to see how each country is doing. If it is played later, then the scores will be adjusted as necessary.

A Sociable Club!

We'd like to think that we're a sociable club and not being very big means that most people get to know each other after a while.

Probably the best way to see how sociable we are is by looking at the many tableaux of photographs in the clubhouse or online on this site. The word 'social' should not however be taken to mean uncompetitive, as there's a mean streak in most of us that surfaces when we least expect it. Competitive but sociable is probably a good combination.

Here's a brief summary of the social events that we run.....

Spring Chicken and Christmas Turkey tournaments - involving six teams with up to 7 pairs on each team, these play over a six week period on either Mon/Wed/Fri each week. last night either coincides with a presentation ceremony or the Christmas party, or boith. Teams are graded, husbands typically dont play with wives, and a great time is normally had by all.

Club Nights - We normally run these in late spring and they go on into the Summer holiday period. Monday nights, graded pairs, lots of fun with some snacks and a drink afterwards on our trusty deck (assuming the hoped-for heatwave arrives which it usually does)

Ad Hoc Social tennis - Various groups in the club run events of a competitive but social nature - eg Mens Class6+ play Mondays at 7pm sharp, Ladies Wednesday morning is a fixture at 10am, there are other ladies and mens events also which keep changing, so ask around, watch the noticeboards, and read the newsletter.
